The World On My Doorstep

An ever-expanding postcard blog

The Swamps of Louisiana

on March 15, 2014

Scan 1 - Version 3This beautiful, serene card comes from the awesome Igor in the USA whilst on a trip to the state of Louisiana which is somewhat famed for this sort of environment.Unlike most of the USA which can place its colonial heritage with the English or the Spanish, Louisiana was claimed by the French and named after King Louis XIV of France. Louisiana Creole is still spoken in many areas and much of the land is incredibly marshy and home to alligators – which Igor says he had a close encounter with (go on Igor, tell us more, we’re dying to know the story!). Surprisingly, the states largest industry is in seafood, which directly provides locals with 16,000 jobs. What a beautiful card! Thank you!
