The Maya Remains of Caracol

CaracolOh! Another Maya-themed postcard from Belize! My favourite type of card! This one comes from Debbie who I’ve done a direct swap with before and shows the ruins of Caracol. She tells me the name means “Snail” in Spanish – how fascinating! She says it’s a particularly beautiful site although it’s deep in the jungle and is really only accessible during the dry season as it’s rough in the rainy season. But she does say she has managed to visit a couple of times – lucky! Love it!

My Dream Postcard Arrives!

I’ve always wanted a card showing Maya ruins, so you can imagine how pleased I was when this card arrived today as part of a direct swap with Debora, a postcrossing user. This postcard shows Lamanai (meaning submerged crocodile), which is a site I already know a lot about through my studies, as it is one my Professor and her husband excavated. I absolutely adore this card, and having just finished my dissertation about the Classic Maya, it arrived at a very fitting time!
