Prague Castle

PragueCastleThis great card of Prague Castle comes from Stanislav in the Czech Republic. What you can’t tell from this post is just how huge this card is! Honestly, it is bigger than A5! ENORMOUS! Stanislav tells me that Prague Castle is the largest castle complex in Europe – I didn’t know that! He also says that Prague is a very historic and romantic city to visit. Lovely card!

Lalibela

LalibelaThis gorgeous card comes from David in the Czech Republic and shows the UNESCO site of Lalibela in Ethiopia, famous for its monolithic rock-cut churches, built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Really beautiful! David tells me he loves to travel and I think its pretty awesome that he’s been to Ethiopia!

My First Lord of the Rings Card!

LotrHobbitsWell, I just LOVE this card from Šárka in the Czech Republic. There’s something about Lord of the Rings pictures that takes me back to being an eleven year old discovering the first film she ever fell in love with in her life. And although I’m no longer quite as obsessive over the films as I used to be, I still adore them. So to receive this card brought me a huge amount of joy! She told me she chose this card from her pack of LOTR cards because it’s her favourite so she thought I’d like it too – how lovely! And she’s also been kind enough to include a vintage stamp from Czechoslovakia in 1968! Amazing! Šárka also mentions how she, like me, loves camping and spent a week last year in the Alps with nothing more than a tent, food and clothes. Sounds absolutely perfect to me! One of the nicest postcards I have ever received!

A Surprise Card!

This striking card comes from Juraj in the Czech Republic with some amazing stamps on the back – it looks like he sent it from a collector’s fair. It came as a bit of a surprise though, since I already swapped with him a couple of months ago! This stately home is situated in Blansko, a town with many industries; Juraj tells me the main ones are water turbines, cast iron and measuring instruments, very interesting!

A Very Unique Czech Card

This great, shaped card comes from Roman (incidentally, one of my favourite names!) in the Czech Republic. He says he couldn’t resist choosing this card as he likes it himself! I don’t blame him, it’s very different to a lot of the Czech cards I’ve received in the past and shows a scene from the town of Olomouc. I just love the coats of arms for the towns! So cool!

Another Beautiful Czech Castle

This stunning card comes from Robert in the Czech Republic and shows Hrad Cesky Sternberk Castle. Robert tells me it is situated about 50km from Prague. He also tells me (if I understand correctly) that superstition says you can see the footprint of a ghost in the castle walls and that the local name for it is “firedog”. Very interesting!

From a Collector’s Fair

This beautiful card arrived as part of a direct swap with Czech Juraj. It shows Bouzov castle which looks beautiful from the air and very autumnal. He has also been kind enough to send it from a special collector’s fair in the Czech Republic which means it has some great stamps and postmarks. Awesome!

A Czech Town

This lovely card comes from Tomas in the Czech Republic showing various views of the town of Kromeriz, not far from where he lives. He tells me his hometown is Ostrava which is industrial and the 3rd largest city in the country with the tallest city hall! Talk about random facts! Great card!

I Czeched My Mail and Found Three Cards!

These lovely cards came as part of a direct swap with Zuzana in the Czech Republic, each with their own detailed message. The first shows Karlstejn castle which Zuzana tells me is situated near Prague and was built in the 1340s as a place of residence for Karel IV. The second card shows the beautiful Hluboka castle which was built in a gothic style originally but has since been rebuilt in several other styles. Apparently it also has a beautiful English-style garden. Zuzana says many girls dream of marrying at both these castles! I’m not surprised, so beautiful! The final card shows Cesky Krumlov which is a UNESCO city, she tells me its a gorgeous city but a bit too touristy, which I guess is unsurprising!

And Another Repeat!

Having never had 2 copies of the same card before, I was also surprised to receive this one, which I already have in my collection. Of course, the message and stamps are different though, so its not a bad thing! This one comes from Alena in the Czech Republic. Interestingly, she tells me that she has just visited the Channel Islands – its a small world!
