Penang Meet Up

Scan 2This beautiful card comes from Violet in Malaysia along with some other postcrossers at a meet up. I particularly like how this card was clearly designed and printed specifically for the event – which makes it very unique. On it you can see: Penang Hill Fenicular Train, Penang Bridge, Komtar and the Kek Lok Si Temple. Great card! Thanks Violet!

Snail Mail!

Scan - Version 3 Scan - Version 2 Scan - Version 4

These three awesome cards come from Heather in the USA. The top two were lovingly designed by herself and the third, obviously, shows most people’s dream! Ben and Jerry’s! In case you have been living under a rock your whole life or live in a country unlucky enough to not have access to B&J’s this delicious snack is only the BEST ICE CREAM IMAGINEABLE! That being said, Heather tells me she once sent this card to someone and they replied saying “I don’t like ice cream.”. Maybe part of me (my waistline) wishes I didn’t like ice cream, but in reality, it is just too scrummy to ever give up! Thanks Heather!

Barcodes Galore!

Scan 1These great four cards come from the very talented Scott in Nebraska, USA. Of course, they show Bruce Lee, Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. But what is really impressive is that Scott has made these entirely out of barcodes! If you would like to see more of Scott’s work you can look at http://www.barcodeart.com to find out more about the cards but also the process involved in making them!

Another Easter Delight

Scan 4Another very belated update, this time from Ramona and her beautiful creative family in Germany. Easter in Germany is celebrated in a very similar way to the UK, on a Sunday in March or April and as part of a long weekend. And of course, who doesn’t love chocolate, eggs and cute animals?

Chinese New Year!

Scan - Version 2I received this sweet hand-made card from Winky in Hong Kong to celebrate the Chinese New Year in February. The Chinese Zodiac runs on a 12 year cycle and this year is the year of the Horse. Supposedly people born in the year are supposed to have horsey characteristics: energetic, confident and ambitious. It’s also meant to be the year to start that project you’ve been dreaming of – apparently it may well be successful! Regardless of your thoughts on astrology, I do enjoy reading about it and learning about the Asian culture. Thanks Winky!

A Hand-Made Creative Beauty

postcards2Although the scan quality hasn’t done it any favours, this was one of my favourite Christmas cards this year, hand-made by my amazingly creative friend Hannah in Germany. And yes, those are button baubles! So cute! Germany places an interesting emphasis on advent as well as Christmas (which is celebrated on December 24). On December 5, children also put out shoes or slippers for Saint Nicholas to fill with sweeties and chocolates. With this she also sent a box full of German sweets, biscuits and other Christmassy items which were all delicious and much loved! Such a cute card thanks Hannah!

From An Animal Lover

postcards_4This cute card, made from two stickers comes from Sonja in Germany. She tells me dogs and dolphins are her favourite animals. I can’t really say much more about this card than that, except to state the obvious for anyone living in a cave – these are zebras and flamingos!

Awesome Hand-Mades!

SteyningDanClown DanBubbles DanSkull  DanPanda

These awesome cards come from my good friend Dan in England. I am lucky enough to be the first ever recipient of these cards (apart from the one showing his hometown of Steyning) which he designed himself using his Nintendo DS and has had printed as proper cards. What a great idea and fun channel for creativity! Although I am a bit coulrophobic (phobia of clowns) I do find the clown card really awesome and I love the level of detail he’s achieved! Impressive! What a lovely surprise for me as well! Thanks Dan!

Side note: anyone interested in viewing Dan’s fun artwork can visit his facebook page here.

Another Hand-Made Beauty!

This beautiful card comes from Yu-Rou in Taiwan, she tells me her hobbies are cooking and painting. She’s also printed a rubber-stamp image that she carved herself onto the card – it’s awesome! She’s clearly got lots of artistic talent. Great card!
