The World On My Doorstep

An ever-expanding postcard blog

Flensburg

postcards2_3_2This card is pretty cool, coming from Katja in Germany, as it shows Flensburg, the northern-most town on the German mainland and one which I am already familiar with as my penfriend Hannah tends to go there every year on holiday. In fact, when Katja told me that the local greeting there is “Moin”, I felt very knowledgeable, since Hannah sent me a card only a matter of weeks before telling me the exact same thing! This card is such a beautiful panorama of the blooming rape-flowers in the fields over the estuary, I just love it!

Cape Town Multiview

postcards3_3This card comes from Liz in South Africa and shows her city of Cape Town. I’m a little confused as she refers to it being my ‘first ever card from Cape Town’… which it isn’t, thanks to the amazing Ruhanand a couple of other postcrossers. Never the less, it is very pretty, showing various views of Table Mountain – one of South Africa’s most famous tourist destinations. Not surprising really, considering how striking it is. Very pretty!

A Romanian Tram Depot

postcards2_2_2This beautiful old scene comes from Ciprian in Romania who chose this card as it shows a traditional scene for me. Amazing! For those interested, this is the main tram depot in Cotroceni, a suburb of Bucharest.

Steam Train!

postcards_2This fun card comes from Adward in Taiwan and shows a Taiwanese steam train. Apparently the Taiwanese are quite keen on these little pieces of moving history and I like how quaint they look on their tracks. Lovely card!

French Canals

FrenchCanalsThere is something about canals that I really love – perhaps because my hometown has one running right through it, so they bring back great childhood memories. I don’t know, but anyway, I really love this card from British Chris who now lives in the Burgundy region of France, near the Loire river. He also says that the area is also full of forests, lakes and rivers – sounds lovely!

The Land of Big Potatoes!

Idaho PotatoesThis fun card comes from Lisa in the USA who tells me she is from California but was driving through Idaho when she saw this card! She also says she enjoys all the western states. Apparently Idaho is renowned worldwide for its delicious potatoes, something I did not know!

The Temple of the Dawn

Temple of DawnI work in a Thai cafe so it is really great to get another card from Thailand – this time from Jirat who welcomes me to the “Kingdom of Smiles”! I love how different every card I’ve received from Thailand is, but all are so beautiful!

Chiva Bus!

ColombiaThis card is possibly my overall favourite card that I have ever received – all the way from Gina in Colombia! It shows a traditional Chiva bus, used as transport in the mountains. She tells me that they also exist for tourist purposes in cities and on the Caribbean coast but that the real ones are ones such as these – used by the locals in the Andes. Amazing card, absolutely stunning!
