The Beautiful Baltic Sea

This amazing picture comes from Kasia in Poland and shows the Baltic Sea. She tells me she bought the card in Gdansk but she herself lives in a landlocked region more renowned for its lakes. She’s also drawn a very cute doodle of a Maya temple which is awesome! Great card!

Singaporean Calligraphy

This really cool card comes from Daniel in Singapore and shows how the art of Chinese calligraphy is still practiced in the country. He tells me he tried for ages to find me a nature themed card and even went to Singapore’s botanic gardens for one, but when that failed he had to accept defeat and settle for a cultural card. So sweet of him to try so hard! And anyway, I love this card and it’s got some great insect themed stamps on it too!

The Iguazu Falls

This great card comes from Argentinian penpal Nau and shows the Iguazu falls on the Argentine/Brazilian border. He has drawn a little map to show where they are in relation to his town (a considerable distance away!) and tells me he has never visited them but hopes to one day. He also says ‘una imagen vale veras que mil palabras’ – a picture is worth a thousand words. So true! Awesome card!

Mont Orgueil Castle

Jersey

Representing the 60th country I’ve now received a card from, I got this postcard today from my boyfriend who is currently on business in the neighbouring island of Jersey. He tells me how he is constantly reminded of all the fun we had there last summer when I was on archaeology excavations. He knows me well enough to have chosen a great historical card too!

Stunning Moldova

This wonderful card comes from Jaroslav in Moldova and is my first from the country. He tells me that it is currently grape season, so the vinyards are very busy there at the moment. He also says how he loves to drive into the countryside (to places like in the picture) to go hiking. Gorgeous card!

A Very Unique Czech Card

This great, shaped card comes from Roman (incidentally, one of my favourite names!) in the Czech Republic. He says he couldn’t resist choosing this card as he likes it himself! I don’t blame him, it’s very different to a lot of the Czech cards I’ve received in the past and shows a scene from the town of Olomouc. I just love the coats of arms for the towns! So cool!

A Whistle-Stop Tour of Melbourne!

This great card showing the ‘best bits’ of Melbourne comes from Paul in Australia. He tells me how Melbourne, the capital of Victoria is known for its coffee, cafes, sport, shopping, fashions, Yarra River and its great architecture. The card also informs more on the back about the places it highlights on the front: the bar is The Croft Institute, the restaurant is Pellegrini’s, the laneway is AC/DC Lane and the theatre is Fortyfivedownstairs. Great card!

A Card For A Good Cause

This card from my Croatian penpal Mirna is really great since it is actually in support of a massive charity effort run by Kozmo pharmacies. By buying one postcard, 1 square metre of land will have landmines removed from it. Mirna tells me that despite the war ending nearly 20 years ago, over 700 square kilometres of the country are still full of mines so this effort is extremely important. What an amazing card, and for such a great cause.

Some Beautiful Nature

This beautiful card comes from German Adolina. I love the natural beauty of it! Very, very pretty! She’s also stuck some cute butterfly stickers on the back with a UNESCO stamp. Lovely!

My First From Denmark!

This gorgeous card comes from Davide in Denmark and is my first from the beautiful country! He tells me his city of Aarhus is the second largest in the country and the central image shows ‘Den Gamle By’ – the old city, which takes you back to life in 1800 – beautiful! The smaller pictures show the theatre in the bottom right and Marselisborg Palace in the bottom left alongside some other lovely views of the city. He finishes the card by saying “Hygge” which he tells me is a very Danish word meaning ‘forget life’s problems and enjoy it’s simplicities’ (Hakuna Matata!). Really lovely card!
