Sochi!

This beautiful card is one of my favourites! Sent to me way back in March, just after the amazing Sochi Winter Olympics, Nadya in Russia really hit the nail on the head with this one – AND even used a commemorative stamp! For some reason, this was the first year I really got into the Winter Olympics and I honestly got hooked! My favourite: the snowboarding! Amazing! And there’s no doubt about it – despite all their controversies the Russians can certainly put on a good show.

An Olympics Maxicard!

AusOlympicsThis fantastic card arrived the other day from Neil in Australia. I just LOVE this maxicard! The London Olympics was such a great event so to have a card commemorating it is fantastic. Neil tells me January 26th was Australia Day which is when they celebrate the arrival of the first fleet of convicts and soldiers who started a colony at Sydney Cove. However, what I didn’t know is that the aboriginals call it “Invasion Day” to express their loss under white British rule. Very interesting and a poignant reminder of the suffering that colonisation led to all around the world.

The Athens Olympic Opening Ceremony

AthensOlympics

This breathtaking card comes from Milda in Greece and shows the Olympic stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2004 games. Milda tells me the stadium is called ‘Spyros Louis’ after the first winner of the modern marathon. What an amazing card!

Olympics!

I was really pleased to receive this unique card showing the Olympic rings in Beijing (I think?), despite it actually being from Julia in Russia! She actually used Touchnote to send this card, which I’d never heard of before, but I think its a lovely way of sending unique images to others – love it!
