Cyprus via Germany

I received this card over a month ago from Ilona in Germany but have been so busy with work and life that I haven’t been updating my blog very quickly! Anyway, she tells me that she bought this card on a trip to Cyprus and is happy to send it to me since it is a card sent from one island to another (with a short stop in Germany). Cute!

A Triple Whammy From Cyprus!

Whilst taking part in a direct swap with Finnish postcrosser Merja, who lives in Cyprus, I was lucky enough (and surprised) to receive three beautiful cards! The first shows Paphos – the entire town is a World Heritage Site apparently! Merja tells me that it was the capital of Cyprus for a long time in antiquity and that Aphrodite was said to have risen from the seas around the town. In this picture is a rural coffee shop – but one only for men! Ha! The second shows the Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia which dates back to the 7th millennium BC which is renowned for the its circular houses and stone-built defensive systems. The final card shows some sea caves, on the back of which, Merja tells me more about her country in general. She says Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and that the capital is Lefkosia since the Byzantine period in the 11th century and the city dates back to the Bronze Age which was then transformed into a very regal town between 1192 and 1489. She also tells me she is from Lomesos, the second largest city in the country. Fantastic surprise to receive three cards and the fact that she wrote in detail on all three makes it even better!
