The World On My Doorstep

My Dream Postcard Arrives!

I’ve always wanted a card showing Maya ruins, so you can imagine how pleased I was when this card arrived today as part of a direct swap with Debora, a postcrossing user. This postcard shows Lamanai (meaning submerged crocodile), which is a site I already know a lot about through my studies, as it is one my Professor and her husband excavated. I absolutely adore this card, and having just finished my dissertation about the Classic Maya, it arrived at a very fitting time!

Ouro Preto

This interesting card from Minas Gerais in Brazil arrived yesterday from Malu, who has sent it as the city is very historical. After googling it myself I discovered that any modern architecture built must adhere to the designs of the 18th century colonial style. Very interesting!

A First From Bosnia & Herzegovina

This cute card showing various places of worship in Sarajevo comes from Mirna a postcrossing penpal from Croatia(who sent me the lovely mammoth card a few weeks ago). She says she really enjoyed her time there on a trip for her studies and chose this card to show me the multicultural nature of the city. Very beautiful, and my first from Bosnia & Herzegovina.

I’ve inserted this picture bigger than usual because it is probably one of the cutest cards I have EVER received. It comes from Antje in Germany, who tells me about her town Wuppertal, which is famous for its monorail train. Absolutely adore this postcard!

Dolphins in Arizona!

This cute card comes from penpal Becki in Arizona, and is officially my first from the state (I’m beginning to get through them quite fast now!). She tells me she didn’t actually see dolphins on her trip to Seaworld, but managed to sea a whale and its calf. She also mentions her plans for Easter. Really nice and cheerful card!

Brest Archaeology (Yes You Read That Right)

This lovely card arrived today from Inna who lives in a town called Brest in Belarus. She’s sent me this card showing the archaeology museum of the nearly 1000 year old city. She tells me a little about her town on the back, but what I think is really nice is that she’s clearly read my profile about my love of archaeology.

A First From Minnesota

I’ve been seriously busy lately writing a 10,000 word dissertation to finish my degree, so you can imagine how pleased I was after finally completing my first draft today that I had a postcard from Minnesota (my first from the state) from Kristy, who tells me Duluth isn’t her hometown but she actually lives in a town with the cute name of “Two Harbors”. Lovely card with a very cute horse on the front!

Stunning Chinese Mountains

This spectacular card arrived today all the way from Kai in China. This is possibly one of the most beautiful pictures to make its way to my doorstep. It shows Imperial Brush Peak in Tianzi Nature Reserve. Kai tells me how he loves photography and chose this card especially to share some of the wonderful nature from his country. I love it!

Japanese Moomins!

This cute card arrived today from Miki in (surprisingly) Japan! Its my first card from the country and I love the fact this Moomins card shows the hattifatteners – my favourites! I really like the quirky choice of words in the speech bubble too. Cute!

A First From Taiwan!

My first ever card from Taiwan arrived today from Felice, showing the beautiful Geban Bay at sunset. In immaculately neat handwriting, Felice tells me that it is on one of the outlying islands of the country. She also says Taiwan is famous for its delicacies such as “pearl milk and stinky tofu” – brilliant! She tells me a little about things to see in her country as well before signing off. I was very excited to receive a card from such a distant part of the world!
